How to Beat Credit Card Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania – A Five Step Program

While we rarely think of credit cards as being in line with alcohol, smoking, and drugs, they can be just as addictive. That’s especially true in the US, where any college student is bombarded with credit cards, and people already in debt regularly receive “pre-approved” credit card offers in the mail.

While we rarely think of credit cards as being in line with alcohol, smoking, and drugs, they can be just as addictive. That’s especially true in the US, where any college student is bombarded with credit cards, and people already in debt regularly receive “pre-approved” credit card offers in the mail. Many people have come to rely on credit cards, not as a privilege, but as one of life’s necessities. They won’t leave the house without a credit card (or two or three), and many people wouldn’t even dream of shopping with only their available cash anymore. These are signs of credit card Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania. If this sounds like you, follow this five-step program to help you beat it.

1. Admit that you have a problem.

As with any kind of Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania, the addict is often the last person to know. The first step is to admit to yourself that you really have a problem, and to truly believe that. If you don’t understand your problem, you can’t solve it. Once you’ve admitted your credit card

Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania, make a commitment to yourself to beat it. Write that commitment down in a short contract with yourself.

2. Ask for support from loved ones.

I’m not talking about financial support here. You need to find at least one person that you can trust explicitly, and confide in them. Tell that about your problem. Ask them to serve as your moral support, and to encourage you if you should “fall off the wagon.”

3. Make amends with people that your Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania has hurt

Your credit card Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania has likely hurt many more people than just yourself. Perhaps your family helped you pay off some old debts, and it hurt them financially. Perhaps your lousy credit has hurt your spouse or children, because you couldn’t get a new car, buy a home, or send your kid to a better school. Maybe you’ve had to resort to “borrowing” money from friends that you’ve never been able to pay back. Now is the time to apologize to anyone who’s been hurt by your credit card Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania, and to tell them about your plan to fix things.

4. Set a budget.

Once you’ve dealt with the emotional and psychological aspects of your credit card Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania, it’s time to start taking action. The first thing to do is set a budget for yourself. Evaluate where your money is going, and decide where you can cut costs. Discuss your budget with your family, because it will likely affect them, and they can give you suggestions for ways to cut costs without giving up what’s most important to you. The idea is to live by spending less, but not to live so lowly that you’re miserable. If your budget makes your life feel like a nightmare, you won’t stick to it, so be realistic when creating it.

5. Pay off those credit cards!

As you live according to your new budget, you’ll have extra money on hand. Cut up those credit cards, and put half of that extra money towards paying them off (that’s in addition to what you were paying on them each month previously). Put the other half into a savings or money market account, so you can earn interest. By the time your credit cards are paid off, you should have a nice “reward” for yourself and your family saved up. Use it to take a vacation or to buy something the whole family can enjoy, and you won’t need a credit card to do it!

Shopping Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania leads to a Financial Whirlpool.

Shopping is something most people love. But often the thrill, excitement, and absorption becomes such that an ordinary hobby or time filler becomes an Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania. A shopping Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania like drugs, alcohol, or gambling is a blinding thirst where the shopper is unable to see essential from non essential and over spend.

They shop until they drop and run into debt spending on their credit cards up to and over its limit.

Shopping for many is escapism from the realities of life and its accompanying problems. It is but a temporary reprieve from depression, anxiety, or loneliness. What a shopper never understands is it is a false world which will not grant happiness or love, or self esteem. After the shopping binge the person will experience remorse. The unhappiness will intensify due to unmanageable financial disaster and debt. This will be further compounded by the displeasure earned from family members or financial consultants. Believe me over 80% of the purchases will never be used. An addict may have a hundred pairs of shoes, or bags, or coast, or glasses – the obsession being restricted to one kind of object.

Like alcoholics, compulsive shoppers go on binges when they are upset, lonely, depressed, or feeling out of sorts. Shopping is a “pick me up,” a temporary euphoria that lifts their spirits.

The possible repair of finances and cure of the Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania is possible only if the shopper accepts that an Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania exists. What helps is professional counseling and joining a self-healing group that is dealing with this Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania. A shopping addicts version or equivalent of alcoholics anonymous.

Guidelines:

1. First and foremost set small limits on all credit cards. Freezing the limits will help you limit your spending power.

2. Lock away all credit and debit cards.

3. Budget household and other expenses. Make specific envelopes and mark them clearly for what the money is earmarked for.

4. Sit with a family member or friend and make a list of bare essentials. Go shopping with a controlling companion one who will say “NO” is no uncertain terms.

5. Never visit sales or discount warehouses. Or, watch television shopping channels.

6. Do not subscribe to shopping catalogues.

7. Fill your day choc-a-bloc with activities. If you have no time to ‘stand and stare’ you won’t have a moment to think about shopping. Find interesting activities that absorb your interests and time.

8. Go to the mall or shopper’s paradise after they are all safely closed for the day. This way you can look at displays without being tempted to rush in and buy something.

9. If you feel the itch or urge to shop, resist it with all your strength and go out for a walk or to the gym exercise until you are too tired to do anything else.

10. Pay for all purchases by cash or cheque. Use a card only in emergencies.

Compulsive shopping is a serious Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania. It is escapism from realities and unhappiness. As serious as drug Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomanias and an illness, a compulsive shopper needs treatment that is similar to other Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomanias. Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomanias of any kind need to be snipped at the very root before it reaches a point of no return.

The Dark Side Of Cash Advance, Its Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania And How You Can Overcome It.

The main reason anyone should avoid cash advances is the huge interest rates that companies attach to their loans. These huge interest rates will make you pay so much back that it will put you in an even deeper financial problem. This is why you need to seek out a cash advance loan with affordable interest rates or simply look for another way to get the money you need until your next paycheck.

Missing a payment is another big problem when taking cash advance. When you miss a payment you will be required to pay back even more than what you thought you would have to repay; you could end up paying back the same amount in interest again. One missed payment can actually increase the amount that you have to pay back by as much as 50%, which may not be worth the risk of ending up in more trouble than you thought possible.

The payment structures seem quite unreasonable at times. You can use your credit card and miss a payment and still pay back less than what you would compared to a cash advance loan; this shows the difference between the two different loans, so take time to decide what you want to do.

When you need a big amount of money, it is better if you seek some lending institutions other than cash advance companies, mainly because the repayment structure will be a bit more easy than the cash advance loan. This means at the end of the day you have more money left, which is what you want. You need a loan because you obviously need money, if you can get more money, then it's clearly a blessing.

Now let us look at how we can break the Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania of cash advance loans which some of us acquire unfortunately.

Because of the ease with which they are available, cash advance loans can become very addictive. They are very handy if you are short of cash until your next payday. You can simply borrow a small amount of cash then pay the cash advance company back on your payday.

Like any Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania, cash advance Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomania is hard to break. Once you know an easy way to get quick cash, it is hard to break from that habit. Cash advance Addiction, Dipsomania & Methomanias can only lead to one thing and that is a horrible mountain of debt that could destroy you.

In order to break from this horrible habit, you have to understand that these companies are taking away more of your money each time you borrow from them in part because their interest rates can be rather harsh to the customer. You need to make a budget that you can follow every month. It will give you the confidence that you can manage without taking loans ever so often and slowly reduce the money you borrow.

When you break the habit of taking money from cash advance company, your confidence will soar and this will again have a positive impact on your life.

Remember that these loan companies are there for us only for when we are in deep money trouble and not for small financial problems which can be solved with a simple budget and planning.
