Do You Really Know Why You Are Submitting Your Articles To Online Article Directories?

Article submission is perhaps one of the best ways to leverage your products and services on the Internet....that is, if done correctly, but like Link Exchange, I think it's being abused.

That said, I don't think Article Marketing, Blog Marketing, Content  arketing & Online is about to die. It's alive and strong!

I have noticed that a lot of authors are submitting articles for the wrong reasons. Authors are submitting 'half baked' articles fueled by a 'PageRank' and 'BackLink' craze, something I find very fruitless. Like in link exchange, the search engines have wisened up and are getting better at weeding out 'spam'.

It’s imperative that you submit ‘quality’ articles. A badly written article may generate you that ‘backlink’ that you so much desire, but the real purpose of submitting your article to an Article Marketing, Blog Marketing, Content  arketing & Online directory is to gain publishers who will willingly publish your articles on their websites, blogs and newsletters; that’s where the real traffic comes from. Publishers should 'want' to publish your article, hence the importance of good writing.

Submitting numerous short (less than 500 words), poorly and haphazardly written articles will do you no good. Also submitting the same article over and over with a few modifications is not acceptable; it’s duplicate content and defeats the purpose of a directory. An author needs to sit back, choose a good topic and come up with a article that is an effective marketing tool, an article that captivates the reader and makes him or her want to publish it, print and/or forward it to their friends.

Anything less is essentially a waste of time!

How many times have you seen a website with thousands of backlinks but with no ‘PageRank’ or worse still does not feature in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) at all. Too many, I must say. Too many article directories contain tons of 'garbage',...if 'numbers' is the game, then why do some of these directories with tens of thousands of articles have very low PageRank or in numerous instances none at all?

Quality rules!

As an author, your number one priority when writing an article is ‘quality and uniqueness’. You must write powerfully and with purpose. Your writing must be attractive and persuasive, otherwise it’s not worth the trouble.

My suggestion: Write a few 'very good articles' and submit them to carefully selected article directories. Make sure it's a well written and useful article....something site owners will want to publish in their blog, website or ezine.

As I post post my own articles to directories, I always find myself refining the article. This may or may not have any direct benefit but I strongly believe it's part and parcel of the quality control process.

Personally, I don't worry about PageRank or BackLinks, I also do not force feed my directory and I read each and every article that is submitted to the directory.

Write good articles and let it come to you naturally....the search engines will reward you as bloggers and webmasters post your articles on their sites, something they will only do if your writing is stimulating and relevant.

Look at your article as 'Your Product' or 'Your Service'. A service or product that is not 'choreographed' properly will almost always be rejected. If you are having trouble writing, make time and study what the topnotch writers are doing. The Internet is 'pregnant' with excellent writers.

As an owner of an Article Directory, I demand from my authors that they make a serious attempt at writing quality articles. For example, I now do not accept anything less than 500 words in length...debatable yes, but shorter articles are usually badly written.

In summary, here are a few salient points to note:

1. Plan, be clear, be original, structured, substantive and interesting.

2. Your writing must be grammatically and syntactically correct. Spelling mistakes are a no-no! Proof read your articles.

3. Your article(s) should be at least 500 words long.

4. There are plenty of writing samples and guides all over the internet. Look for them and use them. Visit article directories and read the articles within. Nobody is asking you to re-invent the 'writing wheel', but it's of utmost importance that you keep abreast with what the top authors are doing.

5. Get feedback from your friends and colleagues. Two or more heads have always been better than one.

6. Write on topics that mean something to you - passion breeds excellence.

7. Finally if writing is too laborious for you, hire a Ghost Writer and let him/her express your thoughts for you.

Article Marketing, Blog Marketing, Content  arketing & Online should be a win-win situation for directory owners and authors, therefore responsible directory owners should guide their authors and help them improve their writing; such as digging up information for them and emailing it to them in the form of a weekly newsletter, a blog or a forum.

Additionally, directory owners should engage their authors in meaningful discussions on article and general marketing, as it is part and parcel of the cut throat Internet Marketing Game, a science that must be taken seriously.

Get More Traffic, Sales and Subscribers By Submitting Your Articles to Directories

If you have a website you're no doubt constantly wondering "How can I get more traffic to my website?". As web owners we constantly want more traffic, especially if we're doing business online. It's just the nature of things because without traffic a website can't survive. Whether we want more subscribers, more customers or just more visitors to read our content -- and possibly click on our AdSense ads ;) -- it's what we crave: More traffic.

Well, how CAN you get more traffic to your website? There are various methods available, some cost money, some are free, some take a second to do and some can take a long time. What I'm doing to talk about is writing and distributing articles - submitting articles to article directories to be exact. Because it's 100% free and doesn't have to take a lot of time.

No matter what market you are in you should be able to find a subject to write about that your potential subscribers, customers or visitors would be interested in -- and if your article gets read you will most likely get traffic. Plus, you could also get some nice backlinks to your website which is of course always good for search engine rankings. I'll explain the reason behind that later on.

Now, you might not consider yourself a writer but writing an article doesn't have to be hard. It doesn't even have to be long -- 300-400 words per article could be enough if you get your point across even though 600-900 words is more common (but 1200 is usually the maximum).

If you know your market and you're passionate about what you're doing then writing an article shouldn't be a problem. If you need ideas go to forums and blogs in your niche or just see if there is anything in the news you could write about. Also, one trick is to do it like you're writing a letter to a good friend where you're telling him about something specific.

Another solution, if you have no interest in writing an article or just don't have the time, you can let someone else do it. You could go to freelance sites like elance.com, rentacoder.com or guru.com and pay someone to write an article for you. But you should have some idea what it should be about.

Let's assume that you have your article. Next thing you want to do is find article directories that accept articles on your topic and submit to as many as you can find. To find article directories you can go to your favorite search engine and type in "article directory" or "submit article". That should give you a few general directories.

These are some of my favorite directories:
http://www.goarticles.com
http://www.ezinearticles.com

But if you want to find an article directory that is specific to your market you should search for "X article directory" or "submit X article" - where X is the market you're in (like "gardening" or "health").

Then, when you're on the site look for "Submit an article" or "Add article". Make sure you read all the submission guidelines - some sites allow HTML codes and some don't, some places allow affiliate links and some don't, etc. Usually the article directory is organized into many categories and even subcategories. Try to select the category that best fits your article - it'll help with getting your article approved as fast as possible as well as giving you more targeted readers.

If you're not experienced in Article Marketing, Blog Marketing, Content  arketing & Online you might not realize the benefit of publishing your articles. First of all, you'll get your name displayed all over the internet - people will start to recognize it and trust you.

But the main reason so many people want to get their article in as many directories as possible is because of the "resource box" or "about the author" that is displayed at the end of the article.

That resource box can contain the name of your business, your mailing address, web address (to your main page or an opt-in page, etc.), e-mail address, phone number or however you want people to contact you or learn more about you and your business. For some people the link to their website is the most important part of their resource box.

Most article directories allow "active links" in the resource box that people can click on. You definitely want to submit to as many of those directories as you can because for each one you'll get another link back to your website - and that will help you rank higher in the search engines.

Another benefit of this is that if you've written a good article that people like they'll be more likely to click on the link in your resource box - hint, hint ;). They might also feel like they've gotten to know you a little and trust you - which means they're more likely to do business with you.

A well written article will probably also be picked up by more website owners and newsletter editors - giving you more exposure and traffic. But you don't have to write a masterpiece the first time - just get started and you'll get better with each article you write.

So, to get more traffic, sales and subscribers you should get yourself an article about a subject related to your market (either write it yourself or have it written for you by a ghostwriter), find article directories that accept your topic and submit to as many of them that you can find.

How To Maximize Your Article Directory Submission

There are still a few steps you will need to complete before you are really ready to begin submitting your articles to publishers and directories.

write, writing, create, author, writer, creative, web, promote, article, free, profit

You are ready to kick off your Article Marketing, Blog Marketing, Content  arketing & Online campaign. You have some great aricles put together and you've located the best directories to promote your articles. But stop!

There are still a few steps you will need to complete before you are really ready to begin submitting your articles to publishers and directories.

1. Make Your Article As Attractive As Possible

Is your article formatted so it is easy to read and/or scan with short paragraphs, subheadings, and bullet points? Are you using plain text and only plain text in your article?

2. Clean Up Your Act

Have you checked for spelling, grammar, and other surface errors? You will lose credibility with a lot of mistakes. Read your article out loud. You will be surprised how many mistakes you can catch with this method not to mention how many awkward sentences you can locate for revision.

3. Offer Useful Information

If you article offers an useful tip or a solution to a problem then make sure you highlight this in your headline and summary. Don't try to sell with your article. Sell yourself, your information, your expertise, and your experience, but not your products. In the long run you will gain far more exposure by selling your knowledge.

4. Keep It Short

The ideal length (studied by many experts in the field) is a word count of 250-500 words. If your article is twice this length then try to break it into two articles (and so on). If a 500-word article performs the same as a 5,000-word article why give readers more than they can absorb in an easy read.

5. Create Your Resource Box

A resource box is a small paragraph (directory and site requirements vary so keep it as short as possible) with your name, the name of your business, a short tagline, and most important the link to your website (in url form: http://YourSite.com). Don't get too lengthy but you might add at the end a one-three sentence pitch for your site that can easily be trimmed off if some directories have a low character count for the resource box. Don't forget to include a call to ac
tion here. For example, Find more advice from Deanna Mascle by clicking here... You an also include an anchor url related to one keyword or keyword phrase that you want to build backlinks for. Do not abuse or overuse this strategy. Rule of thumb for resource box is that it be no longer than 1/5 the length of your article. If this balance shifts too much it will affect your credibility.

6. Write A Summary

Many directories will ask you for a summary of your article so it easier to have this prepared before you begin submitting. Keep it short and succint. Usually just a few sentences.

7. Generate Your Keywords

Many directories will ask you for a list of keywords or key phrases for your article so it is easier to have this prepared before you begin submitting. I would prepare a list of 10-20 words (comma separated) with the most important first working down to the least important.

Once you've completed these seven steps you are ready to submit. Taking a few moments to complete these steps BEFORE you begin submitting will save you time and stress as you work through the submission process -- not to mention allow you to craft the most effective resource box and summary possible.
