What Makes A Baby Boomer?

By now you probably know that the Baby boomer generation includes all those people who were born between the years of 1946 through 1964. And you probably know that the Baby boomer generation is quite large, encompassing some 78 million individuals. But what you might not fully understand is how the Baby boomer generation got its name.

By now you probably know that the Baby boomer generation includes all those people who were born between the years of 1946 through 1964. And you probably know that the Baby boomer generation is quite large, encompassing some 78 million individuals. But what you might not fully understand is how the Baby boomer generation got its name.

The term “baby boom” corresponds to what was happening back during the early days of the Baby boomer generation. Among other things, the end of World War II in 1945 brought with it the return to their homeland of hundreds of thousands of young men and women. In the United States, it was a time of world domination and economic prosperity. It was also a time of soaring marriage rates and urban sprawl and young couples weren’t wasting any time starting families.

Population explosion!

If you were young, healthy and female during 1945 and 1946 there was a good chance you were pregnant too. It was during 1946 that the birth rate exploded to levels never before reached. In the years that followed, birth rates continued to soar. It was this explosion of new births that would later become known as the “baby boom” which is what gave rise to the term that is so prevalent in our society today.

Although the timeline of births extends beyond what normally would be classified as a generation, those born between the Baby boomer generation years of 1946 – 1964 without a doubt have much in common. They were brought up in the years after the Depression and the victory in WWII brought about a time of optimism.

The Baby boomer generation was the first generation to grow up with television, and advertising, and a newfound sense of equitability. To those born during the baby boom, it seemed almost a goal to break all of the rules that had restricted their parents and their grandparents. And break those rules they did.

Growing up during the Baby boomer years meant growing up with rock ‘n roll and massive marketing. It was a time to question authority and experiment with drugs and sex. The early Baby boomer years were as unique back then as they are right now.

A generation of fulfillment

No other generation in history has so forcefully refused to grow old. And as the first of the Baby boomer generation nears retirement age, they have much to look forward to.

Rather than being something to fear, today’s Baby boomer lifestyle is one to be embraced. Baby boomers are living longer and they are working as hard as they play. They’re traveling, dating, expanding their knowledge, and staying active. They are committed to doing whatever it takes to maximize every single moment of life that they have left.

More than the years of their birth, their drive, their determination and their absolute love of life are what makes a Baby boomer. If you were lucky enough to be born during the baby boom, go ahead and wear the Baby boomer label with pride!

The Self Image of a Baby Boomer

Self image takes on a different role in Mid Life. It’s not a cocky attitude which spurs on winning and over powering another person. It is about having the self confidence to be comfortable in your own skin. Creating a life and a style more suited for who you have become. It’s liking the ability to walk in your own shoes and not trying to copy or wish you were someone else. The self image of any aging baby boomer is unique.

An aging baby boomer finds many factions of self image changing on a daily basis. Mid Life becomes a point of acceptance of yourself just the way you are. It’s not an obnoxious realization. It’s not that you’re thinking that you’re better than someone else, it’s more of a meeting of the mind, ego, heart and body.

It is really great to know that once you accept yourself as who you are, you can make the decision to change or alter any aspect. If there is any part of you that you physically don’t like or habits you wish you never had, you find this brave place within to do something about it. You finally understand that your thoughts create who you are. So, that little nursery rhyme that taught you that “If you believe you can, you can and if you believe you can’t, you’re right” was so true. We realize that it does not matter how long it takes to learn something new or if we do it the best. We are the only one judging . Worrying about what everyone else thinks is futile as they’re too busy re-designing their own lives to bother with ours.

Baby Boomers begin to alter all aspects of our lives. The confidence and enthusiasm we can muster when we want to put our lives in order is a giant aspect of our new found, self loving image. We change our walk and our talk. Environments become an outer picture of our internal expressions. Color, style, relationships, careers and family life take on a new flow. Our friends and families also start changing as a positive and confidant environment reaps more of the same.

Anything in life that is neglected will ultimately deteriorate. If you want to be successful in any area of your life, it needs to be acknowledged, nurtured and maintained. It’s time to look in the mirror and become the best friend possible to the reflection you see. If you need to, trick your mind into thinking you have a new hobby. This hobby is you. You need to put as much effort into liking and caring for yourself as you do all the important people in your life. If your best friend, mate or child had a need, you would do whatever you could to help. Give yourself permission to do the same for you.

The imaginary scales inside your body that measure stress and anxiety will wonder what happened. When you start appreciating yourself and not expecting it to come from outside sources you will be amazed at how much more you enjoy your days. Keep a little booklet next to your bed and before you turn out the light, write 5 things you did today that you can compliment yourself about. Do this for two weeks and measure your stress level and I would bet you keep doing it when you see and feel the positive results. You will probably sleep better because compliments feel good to everyone and create the effect of a more positive self image. It also becomes easier to compliment others and in turn it makes your life easier as you pass that good feeling on!

Why Baby Boomers are Buying Up Land for Sale

Because they want to ensure a comfortable retirement, droves of Baby Boomers are snapping up land for sale in interesting locales across the United States.

Nearly 80 million Baby Boomers are edging ever closer to retirement. In fact, about a hundred thousand Baby Boomers who have chosen early retirement will be receiving their first Social Security checks next month. The outlook for these retirees and those who come after them has never been brighter. Although each person's situation is different, as a whole, this generation will have a quarter of a century of retirement to look forward to, and will bring to retirement an unprecedented level of affluence and continued good health. Because they want to ensure a comfortable retirement, droves of Baby Boomers are snapping up land for sale in interesting locales across the United States.

Boomers are Value Conscious

While this generation might be financially more well off than their predecessors, it doesn't mean that they're spendthrifts. On the contrary, it seems as though they're very aware that their longevity means that they have to be careful with their assets to ensure that they'll have enough money for retirement. As a result, the trend is for Baby Boomers to bypass traditional real estate opportunities and financing, and instead find land for sale by owner (also known as FSBO) or foreclosures, with the intent to build at a later time. In other words, they aren't going to buy land for investments, but rather as the foundation for their golden years. And they want to find land for sale at bargain prices.

Location, Location, Location

Part of the process of finding the right kind of land for sale is finding the right location. Current trends indicate that Baby Boomers are choosing to buy land that is off the beaten path. Few are able to afford to buy or build Malibu beach houses or Manhattan penthouses. Instead, they are electing to go where property prices and property taxes are low. But - and this is an important factor - they want many of the amenities that make retirement living relaxing and rewarding. So, for example, they look for land in or near a golf community, or lake land that affords them wonderful opportunities for fishing. They often opt for land in areas that are going to be developed into private communities, replete with lakes, rivers, recreation centers, and nature trails. Most importantly, they don't want to be "snowbirds," living winters in one area and summers in another. Instead, they want mild temperatures that they can enjoy year-round.

Moving to the Ozarks?

Some of the most inexpensive land for sale can be found in areas not traditionally considered retirement communities. Land near the Ozark Mountains, for example, meets the requirements for mild temperatures, natural wonders, and planning for private communities. Plus, since Arkansas has one of the lowest property tax rates in the nation, Baby Boomers can afford to hold on to the land until they're ready to build.

Unlike previous generations, Baby Boomers know what they want and have the means to achieve it. Buying land for sale in affordable locations is just the first of many trends to come.
