Who Does Ron Artest Think He Is Without Basketball?

You have to hand it to Ron Artest. This guy really just gets under the skins of many NBA fans. Mr. Artest, exactly who do you think you were prior to your basketball career and when you throw it all away, exactly who do you think you’ll be after basketball? It’s time to grow up and make your fans, what few of them you have left, proud again. Don’t you think?

You have to hand it to Ron Artest. This guy really just gets under the skins of many NBA fans. Mr. Artest, exactly who do you think you were prior to your basketball career and when you throw it all away, exactly who do you think you’ll be after basketball? It’s time to grow up and make your fans, what few of them you have left, proud again. Don’t you think?

He’s graced the covers of some of the biggest magazines on the newsstands today. Don’t you know that the executives of Penthouse, Sports Illustrated and GQ all sold large amounts of magazines just because Artest doesn’t know how to behave? When you think about it, it really is disturbing, especially when you visit his website. He boasts about providing the funds for 6 college scholarships and naturally, he is very active with children through his charities, summer camps and general love for children. And why wouldn’t he love children? He certainly can relate to them, right down to the temper tantrums.

In the day where celebrities act like drunkards strung out on drugs in night clubs while divorcing their parents, the general public should demand more from athletes and frankly so should the commissioners who slap them on the wrists with a fat fine and send them to the bench. As commissioner David Stern sternly impressed upon the media in 2004 after the infamous Artest incident, “The line is drawn,” Stern said as he referred to the suspension of players for the Indiana Pacers after Artest fought his way into a suspension which carried some of the heaviest of fines. Yes, David, the line was drawn and the chaos has continued but don’t feel too bad, it’s the norm among professional sports.

In fact, professionals are making such a name for themselves acting out with little self-control that even the college players are getting in on the act. This year in College Football, baby Vick really made his big brother proud when he stomped the leg of another player. He didn’t learn this behavior from big brother but he may be under the false assumption that bad behavior is a special prerequisite for making ‘a go of being a pro’. And we won’t talk about the asinine behavior of T.O. By the way, is he still around?

To add insult to injury, its people like Artest that REALLY needed the break that the NBA gave not only him but his entire family. Artest, now too big for himself has all but forgotten his most humble beginnings. He grew up with two brothers and six sisters, and from his own accounts in his auto-biography on his website, he tells of living in the projects of New York City. Less than seven years ago, he was drafted by the Bulls and a few short years later signed a multi-million dollar deal for a basketball lifestyle brand and gained the kind of money most only dream about. And yes, Artest, considering you started out in the projects, this NBA stuff has been fairly lucrative for you, wouldn’t you agree?

Still, in 2004, Artest commanded $6,158,000.00 in salary, but because he apparently has lost the need for money, he lost over 4.9 million because of suspensions. And true, he probably doesn’t need the money now but some other well deserving athlete did. Someone who would have been glad to sign autographs, shake hands, smile and do what they are paid to do which is play ball and please crowds.

What’s more, when professional players, like Artest, get by with a bad attitude once, they continue to revel in it. For instance, way before Ron Artest became a notorious bad guy, he had another scuffle. Two years prior to his fight on the courts with NBA fans, he grabbed a camera from a television station’s crew and destroyed it after a defeat to the Knicks.

Recently, his tantrum hurt only his own plans when he decided he wanted to go to Sacramento and then he didn’t want to go, and then he did and then he didn’t. In fact, Artest did go because he was made to go, just like a child is made to do something. Here’s an innovative idea for the powers that be in professional sports, if you are going to hire oversized kids to play in an adult game, why not send them to a behavioral psychologist before turning them loose on the general public?

On his website Artest says of his time with one of his teams, “At times I felt like I had to lead more…like Michael Jordan.” Well darling, I can tell you, you are no Michael Jordan. No, Michael Jordan knew how to act like a gentleman and he knew how fortunate he was. Michael Jordan appreciated what the NBA delivered to him and his family and he never disrespected his game. I really wish Ron Artest, given your talent, were a little more like Mike. And I’m sure your fans do too.

Sadly, I was a huge Ron Artest fan and I cheered him on from my home computer and television. However, with his attitude and the mounting chips on his shoulder, I fear he is at the beginning of the end of his career. However, the housing projects of Sacramento will welcome him back to his similar humble beginnings should he decide to stay there when basketball is no longer an option.

One of the skills important for a player to learn before playing the actual game of basketball is passing the basketball. Passing is the act of the handing over the basketball to the player's teammate. Communication between the team members is crucial in passing. You have to acknowledge the pass first, either verbally or nonverbally, before handing over the basketball to a player. Passing can be used as an escape route if the player is heavily guarded by the defenders in order to keep the ball in the team's possession and later on shooting the basketball to the team's basket. In basketball, passing skills are acknowledged by statistics, which are called an assists. Passing the basketball may be done in several ways.

The Chest Pass

This pass is thrown in a straight line with high velocity used on the court's perimeter. When the recipient is moving, this pass is made ensuring that the player doesn't over reach to catch the basketball. When the recipient is stationary, this pass is made ensuring that the player who will accept the basketball doesn't have to move. This pass is received in a triple threat position wherein the feet are shoulder width apart, elbows and knees bent, the shooting hand at the top and the other hand on the side of the basketball. In passing the basketball, it must be held at the level of the sternum, then by pushing the back foot and taking a step with the front foot while extending the arms to make the pass.

The Bounce pass.

The accuracy of this pass is dictated by its trajectory and speed. The change of directions of this pass makes it difficult for the defender to judge where the basketball will go, therefore making it hard to steal. This pass is easier to handle than an overhead pass where the recipient is moving. This pass should be caught by the recipient with a stride when he is moving and shouldn't force the recipient to move when stationary. This pass is also received in a triple threat position wherein the feet are shoulder width apart, elbows and knees bent, the shooting hand at the top and the other hand on the side of the basketball. When making the pass, the ball is held at waist level, altering the position from hip to hip depending on the location of the recipient. The spot where the basketball should go will be aimed three-quarters of the way between the recipient and the passer. Passing is done by pushing the back of the foot, taking a step with the front foot, while extending the arms downward to make the pass.

The Overhead Pass

This is a powerful pass but an easy pass to steal. This is done so that the basketball goes over the top of the defender and is received by the other member of the team at the back of the defender. This pass is also received in a triple threat position wherein the feet are shoulder width apart, elbows and knees bent, the shooting hand at the top and the other hand on the side of the basketball. The hands of the player are placed on both sides of the basketball. Using the player's forearms, the ball is put behind the head, the back of the foot is then pushed off, the front foot takes a step, then the elbows are brought down and the arms are then extended to make the pass.

The Behind the Back Pass

This pass is done behind the back without looking where the ball is going to fool the defender. This is most effective when the player is in motion because the player can easily move in the opposite direction of where the ball will go. This pass needs a lot of patience and practice because it takes time to figure out the right moves to make this pass successful. If expertise in this pass isn't mastered, it shouldn't be done during a game. This is done by holding the basketball with both hands. The dominant hand's shoulder is moved towards the back and the ball is cupped by the dominant hand with the wrist and fingers pointing in the direction of the shoulder's movement. The ball is then carried behind the player's back with the arms wrapped around behind the back and the basketball is then released.

The Alley-Oop

Trust and timing is crucial for this pass to be successful. Practice should be done by the player to figure out the motion of this pass. A short, arching toss is the kind of action that is the easiest to receive by the other members of the team. The recipient should have the vertical leap to dunk or the basket should allow the adjustment of the rim's height. The player should decide to do the alley-oop before making it to the three point arch. The player should establish eye contact with the other member of the team, who will do the hops. A short arching tossing motion is then delivered toward the basket with a shot like motion when the recipient is two or three steps away doing the jump. The spot should be aimed barely above the rim in the side where the recipient is coming from. The other member then receives the pass and makes a dunk, and shoots the basketball in the team's basket.

Assisting the team to score through correct passing is just as essential as taking the shot. Good passing skills and communication among the team members is crucial to make the team's game play a success. Practice makes perfect and good communication among team members will go along way in basketball when passing or assisting is concerned.

A garage organizer system is extremely important to make sure that your garage stays clean and well organized. There is no more important part of your house than your garage. Therefore, why do so many home owners find their garage to be the messiest portion of the home? The reason is that, because it’s is so big, they feel they are a liberty to dump all their unwanted possessions there in order to clean up the rest of their house.

Unfortunately, the garage is usually the area that your visitors will see first upon arriving. You know you need to get it organized…but how? Here are some simple yet incredible effective tools and tips that will enable you to keep your garage organized and looking spotless.

First of all, as with any organizational endeavor, whether it be your closet, cabinet, etc, discard any items you will not be using. Most people’s organizational problems stem from their inability or unwillingness to get rid of items they know they will not be using. They tell themselves that they might use the item again at some point.

However, that day never arrives. Leave nothing untouched. If you don't believe you will be using the item within the next year or so, get rid of it immediately!

The next step is to repair cracks in the garage walls. Wall cracks can cause the garage, even an otherwise clean one, to appear disorganized and messy. This should be done only after discarding your unneeded items.

Third, use hooks on the walls. This is especially useful for your bigger items such as chairs, bikes, shovels, etc. Quite simply, unless you own a huge garage with an endless amount of space to put your larger times, it is necessary to put most of them above the ground to make room for the rest of your inventory. This will instantly give you far more room in your garage than you ever dreamed possible.

Any items that need to be repaired should be done so immediately. There is nothing more wasteful than to allow broken or unusable items to sit around the garage floor for long periods of time. For instance, if your bike needs to be fixed, instead of letting it sit around taking up space, immediately take it to the shop and have it repaired. If your items need to be kept in the garage, they had better serve a good purpose.

Clutter is always the result of indecision You do not know what to do with your belongings, and therefore they get left around the garage instead of being put where they should. The most important thing when it comes to de-cluttering your garage is to make a decision and stick with it.

If you are sure that you will be using an item in the near future, then by all means keep it. However, if you know that you won't be using an item but decide to keep it anyway, you will never get your garage or your life under control.

The most important thing to remember is that, once your garage is in order, you must keep following this system or it will get out of hand again very quickly. Every time you find another item that you know you won’t be using, instead of putting it in the garage, throw it out.

If you do this each and every time you come across such an item, the mess will not accumulate in the first place and you will never again be faced with a big clean-up job again. Follow this garage organizer system, and you will quickly find that it’s easier than ever to organize your garage and your house in general.
