Top 5 Places to See on Holiday in Venezuela

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, one of my jobs is to ensure every client has the best tour possible, so here is my top 5 places to make sure you include in any Holiday in Venezuela.

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, one of my jobs is to ensure every client has the best tour possible, so here is my top 5 places to make sure you include in any Holiday in Venezuela.

1. Located at the Northeast of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, is Margarita a Caribbean island. It has become one of the most popular tourist places in Venezuela not surprising when there is an average of 320 sun filled days. Where better to be if you want to try windsurfing and other water sports.
Being an island, Margarita is surrounded by a host of beaches. So whatever your choice there will be a beach for you, secluded or crowded, waves or no waves.
The mountainous island of Margarita offers tropical palm trees and is a natural, beautiful paradise.

2. Merida lies in the fertile valleys between the mountains and supports a lot of agriculture, including coffee plantations, sugar cane, flowers. It also supports tropical plants like palm trees, orchids, fruits and the Golden Rain tree. Merida is one of the cheaper places to visit in Venezuela. Merida has a diverse variety of landscape, such as snowy mountain peaks, natural rainforest, highland moors, waterfalls and lakes.
This diversity makes the location very attractive to those interested in wildlife, bird lovers, backpackers and climbers alike. The mountain peaks ay be covered in snow the climate is like spring for most of the year making for lovely warm days. Night time is a little cooler. Rainfall is usually during the months of May to September.

3. Canaima National Park, is Venezuela's second largest national park. There are mountain forests, thick woodlands that amazingly join sheer cliffs. There are some stunning waterfalls that cascade from the beautiful flat topped mountains, but most stunning of all is the famous Angel Falls. You have 2 choices in how best to see the Angel Falls. If you wish to navigate the Carrao and Churun river (an upstream trip that can take 3 ½ hours) and a one hour hike in the jungle you will be able to experience the base of the falls. Or for the more adventurous, which ever way you look at it, you can view the Falls in a small aircraft. Either trip is worth the visit as a trip to Venezuela is not complete without seeing the Angel Falls.

4. Fishing for piranhas ( and coming home with all my fingers) on the Venezuela's Orinoco Delta with howler monkeys watching you from the jungle canopy is not an experience one achieves every day and neither is meeting a Warao Indian family and seeing them in the process of making superb woven baskets.

There is nothing more awe inspiring than walking through the vibrant and alive jungle in a world that seems lost in time.

5. The Guacharo cave is enormous and interconnected by narrow passages. The only light source was the lantern that the guide had who led the way.
The cave is home to the very interesting Guacharo (Oil bird) which is very unique in behaviour. This large bird is nocturnal and uses it’s bat like sonar location in poor light. It has long whiskers and a wingspan of over a meter and only leaves the cave at night to search for fruit.
The birds make a strange shrieking noise and it is a good job that you know that it is them as I could imagine it would be quite terrifying if you did not know otherwise.
There are far too many tourists in the cave at any time for my liking but this did not take away from this amazing experience. One thing is for sure if you are visiting the caves make sure your footwear has good grips as the bird droppings are very slippery. There are some running taps at the entrance but I would also advise making sure that you have some wet –wipes.

Top things to see during a holiday in Bhutan

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about unusual destinations and there is not a more unusual destination than Bhutan. That said, it is a place of outstanding natural beauty and a place that remains uncontaminated by the rest of the world due to heavy regulations by the Government. Here then, are my top suggestions for sites to take in during your holiday in Bhutan.

1. I would recommend that a trip to the capital of Bhutan, Thimpu is a journey not to miss. It is said that Thimpu is the most unique capital city in the world. When you visit you will quickly understand why as it is a place of stunning natural beauty, untouched by humankind. You are greeted with the amazing Himalayas which help to create the blissful ambience of Bhutan.

There are a few traditional buildings such as monasteries like Phajoding which overlooks the whole town at a breathtaking 10,000 feet and Tangu Cherry which is a few hundred years old and an important landmark.

Museums, include The National Folk Heritage Museum, Textile Museum which displays It also exhibits colourful and rare traditional Bhutanese dress (kiras for women and ghos for men). There is also a small museum on the grounds of The National Institute of traditional Medicine.

A stunning pink roofed fortress known as Tashichhodzong stands before the SAARC building. The fortress was reconstructed in the early 60’s after a fire destroyed the original that was built in the 1600’s.

Dechencholing is the Royal Palace and a place where you may only take photographs from outside.

2. Paro is a small township which houses the only airport in Bhutan and is the gateway to the kingdom for most tourists. That said there are many easily accessible places of interest in the area. The most interesting place is Paro Dzong which overlooks the beautiful valley. Perhaps some of you will recognise it if you have seen the film "The Little Buddha" as it was featured there. Standing before the beautiful structure you would never guess that earthquakes and fires have been responsible for destroying it many times since the 1600’s.

Also an experience to behold is the Buddhist festival which can last 3-5 days. These festivals are held to ward off evil spirits with colourful costumes, elaborate music, dances and plays, a truly unforgettable experience.

Whether or not you are a spiritual or religious person you will not be able to escape the peace and tranquillity of this magically beautiful place.

3. Takshang Lhakang, also known as the Tigers nest because of it’s stunning location, is the most sacred monastery in Bhutan. The monastery is perched upon a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of almost 2, 400 feet. When you see how big the path up to it is, the mind boggles as to how all the necessary materials were taken up there to build the magnificent structure. You have the choice of hiking or taking a pony up definitely worth the effort if you have taken the time to travel to this forgotten part of the world.

Millions of families take summer vacations together each year. Travel with the entire family can be a wonderful experience, but there are times when you and your partner need some time alone. A romantic getaway may be just what you need and, fortunately, there are several options to choose from.

The first thing to consider when selecting a romantic summer getaway is what romance means to you. Some feel as if certain activities or settings ruin “the mood.” For this reason, think about what it is you need and what you want to get out of the vacation.

If a beautiful tropical climate is what you are looking for, you might want to examine Barbados more closely. Barbados is an eastern Caribbean island in the Atlantic Ocean and is well-known for its fantastic coastal vacations which are ideal for romantic getaways. Barbados also offers an array of unique shops, entertainment venues and restaurants.

Tahiti is also another possibility. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it is referred to as the “most beautiful island in the world.” This amazing island offers romantic summer vacations unlike any other. With so many romantic resorts from which to choose, restaurants and activities for couples, you will surely have the romantic getaway you need in Tahiti.

The Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania is another popular getaway for couples. Pocono resorts are known for their wintertime activities, but the resorts are open all year. During the off-season, the temperature may not be tropical, but they do offer privacy and a great place to escape to when you need to get away from the daily routines and activities.

Similar to the Pocono resorts, Paris France is not a tropical location but it is considered one of the most romantic places in the world. You will notice the romance as soon as you arrive in the city. In addition to the romantic hotels, you will find many amazing attractions. Many couples reaffirm their love and reconnect at The Eiffel Tower, one of the most popular attractions in the area if not the most popular.

Another option is to go on a romantic cruise. Several popular cruise lines offer ships specifically for couples, and the length of the getaway can vary anywhere from three to ten days, sometimes longer. On board, you are likely to find many relaxing, romantic and exciting activities you and your partner can enjoy.

Additionally, cruise ships often dock at several ports and a ship with a romantic theme is more likely to stop at ports with romantic settings. Though it varies by cruise ship, you are often permitted several hours or an entire day to explore the port area. Many couples find this exploration to feel like a separate holiday experience.

Keep in mind that the destination ideas above are only a few of the popular choices for couples. If these are not within your reach as far as budget or travel proximity, do not worry. There are thousands of other destinations from which you can choose!
