Barcelona Airport is the primary entrance into Spain via the air. It is known as El Prat. Since it is so close to the center of the city it is a great place to come in at any time of the year. Since the rates are now so low it is becoming easier to fly and vacation year round as opposed to just during the summer months. This has lead to more visitors and fliers into the city. There are many options for transportation from and to the airport to make it easier to get back and forth to the airport. Some of your options include taxi, rental car and bus.

Suggestions For Getting To And From The Airport

We all have different methods that we prefer to use when we leave the airport. We will explore what some of these are and how to best procure them to get the transport that you want to use.
* Rental Car- If you are looking to be self reliant and want to be able to maximize your time while in Barcelona then a rental car is probably your best option. To keep you moving from place to place and keep you on time for all of your meetings you should choose to use a rental car.
* Taxi- If you enjoy the feeling of being driven around from place to place then this is the mode for you. You will also like the feeling of being chauffeured around town. However there may be a wait and you will not necessarily have immediate service for your needs.
* Train- This is a great mode of transportation with many stops and pick up locations. There are always trains running and they have times available from 6 AM until 11:30 PM. This is a fairly inexpensive mode of transportation to use.
* Bus- This is located in front of the A and B terminals at the airport. Many of the times are similar to those that are used by the train. This is known as the aero-bus and can be a very efficient means of transport.
* Private transfers- This is essentially a limousine service to use while you are in the city. It is used primarily by people who are looking for private tours or those that are looking to find special trips in a private car around the city.

All of these services are available at the Barcelona airport as well as providing information booths throughout the airport for all f the customers.

How can you get in and out of one of the most exciting cities on Earth easily? Heathrow is a sprawling and unpleasant airport. Immigration from outside the EU can be a chore. The London transport system can be expensive. Here are a few tips to make the going easier:

Let's start on the way in. You've collected your bags from the carousel, got through immigration and made it into arrivals.

There are various transport options to central London; tube, black cab, mini cab, bus and train.

1. The London Underground, 'the tube', is the cheapest, but it can take an hour and a half if your destination at the other side of London. The tube has to stop at every station on its route. It can be crowded. It's great for short trips, or for commuting to work. For beginning or ending a holiday, it's wearisome.

2. Black cabs: Black cabs are also very good for short journeys; they are spacious, clean, and the drivers are professionals. They pay a lot of money for their licence, and are tested on their knowledge of London. They can be very expensive. A fee of $120 to get into central London would not be unusual, if the traffic is bad. The meter is running even when you're stopped.

3. Mini cabs: These guys charge flat-fee fares, so it's worth finding a few mini cab companies near Heathrow on the internet, and see if you can get someone to meet you in arrivals. They have to be booked in advance. You can't book them from the airport on the day, as getting into Heathrow and finding you can be a nightmare. Sometimes the customer may not show up, so it's not worth their time.

4. Bus: I'm not sure I'd use these at all. Being stuck in a traffic jam, in a bus, on a long journey, with the clock ticking is my definition of Purgatory. They're good for short hops or before the rush hour or late at night. Cheap as chips, but you pay for it in other ways.

5. The train: This is my favourite. There are two train services from Heathrow; Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect. The first takes fifteen minutes to Paddington, the second about half an hour. Both go to and from Paddington, which is a major terminus in the centre of London. Both are clean, and much faster than the tube. Spend a little more money, and be sure of getting where you want to go on time.

On the way back home, when you board the Heathrow Express in Paddington, you are fifteen minutes from Heathrow. The tube by contrast could take an hour or more. No contest, when you're fretting about getting checked-in on time!

It's worth considering whether you can fit all your luggage into one small case, which you can take on board as hand luggage. This means you can leave it until relatively late to check in. (Due to the new security measures, however, you can't cut it too fine; the queues at departure can be quite long.) Coupled with taking a train to the airport, this can make your journey a lot more pleasant. Plus you don't have to worry about your luggage going missing!

How To Pass The Airport Checkpoint Quickly

Many travelers have to waste time queuing for the screeners at the airport. This is unavoidable and it is the front line personnel that you see as you make your way toward the gate are just the worker bees. They’re not Congress and they’re not the big wig decision makers. If at times they seem like robots, deviating very little from their spcheel, it’s because they have procedures that they must follow and deviating from the standard operation procedure is not an option.

There are a number of things you can do yourself to speed things along. Listed below are the top ten tips to help your visit to the airport security checkpoint hassle-free.

1. Don’t wear pants or suspenders that contain a lot of metal. If you can’t remove the metal prior to passing through the metal detector, you’ll be sent for additional screening, thus increasing your wait time.

2. Laptop computers and video cameras that use cassette tapes, not digital cameras, need to come out of their carrying case prior to passing through the x-ray machine. Have these items out of the case before you reach the table to divest your items.

3. Wear tennis shoes or known airport friendly footwear so you’ll avoid setting off the alarm on the walk through metal detector. Often the screeners will encourage you to take your shoes off before passing through the metal detector. What many passengers fail to recognize is that many, many shoe manufacturers place steel shanks (supports) in the souls of the shoes. Just because you don’t see metal, doesn’t mean they are metal-free.

4. If you have an inkling that your belt buckle or larger metal watch may set off the metal detector, remove them while you’re waiting in line and have them ready to place into a bin.

5. Have your boarding pass and government issued photo ID readily available. Some airports have someone checking your boarding pass and ID as you first approach your concourse, then shortly thereafter there is another employee asking for the same thing. Actually they may be asking for the same thing, but these employees, often one a federal employee and one a private company employee, while looking at the same thing, aren’t looking for the same thing. Each person has a different role to fill. If you have to dig in your purse or wallet for these items, that will increase the wait time. Ensure your boarding pass is pulled out of the airline envelope.

6. Only undeveloped film with a speed of 800 or higher should be hand checked. All other disposable cameras, film of 100, 200 or 400 speed and digital cameras are safe to pass through the x-ray. Know your film speed before reaching the x-ray machine.

7. Leave all tools, Swiss army knives, pointed end scissors, and bladed corkscrews in your checked bag. You may not bring them onboard the aircraft in your carry-on bags. If your bag must be searched to find these items, it’s definitely going to increase your wait time.

8. Strollers and pet carriers need to pass through the x-ray machine. Remove your children and pets from this equipment prior to reaching the x-ray.

9. Most small jewelry such as rings, necklaces and earrings will not set off the alarm. Don’t bother wasting time removing them.

10. Yes your fanny pack, hidden money belt and wallet on a string around your neck must pass through the x-ray, have it ready to place into a bin.

With this method, you can pass the metal detector easily without much checking from the officers. When you fly next time, use these strategies and try having fun by being prepared!
