Of course, you can make a sales web Site that focuses on almost any subject you want but you will have a better chance of success, especially if this is your first site, if you choose a subject you have some experience with.

Your product is the information you have that other people will find valuable. Personal experience is the best source of real knowledge. If you consistently draw on your experiences to produce your content you will create information that other people will find useful and will be willing to pay for.

Plus it makes the process much more fun to write about things you understand and love.

The best place to start is by brainstorming a list of topics. Get a pad and pen.

What are you passionate about? Write it down. What do you love to talk about? What do you read about? What specialized knowledge do you have from your job? Any hobbies? Start writing. Get everything down. Don’t censure anything, just write it down.

List the 10 biggest problems you can think of in your home, workplace or community. What do you enjoy doing with your spare time?

Ask your friends and family what they think you’re good at and knowledgeable about. You might be surprised at the things they see that you’ve missed.

Spend a solid thirty minutes on this brainstorming session. At first the ideas will come quickly. But then, after you’ve already written down the obvious ones, you’ll start to have to really think about it. This is when the real power of this exercise happens.

You see, the subconscious mind is a powerful thing. The trick is it takes a constant and persistent demand from your conscious mind to get its attention. But once you do, your subconscious will take up the effort for you and begin to supply answers to your question as it comes up with them.

By spending a full thirty minutes intensely focused on brainstorming topics for your sales web Site topic you communicate this demand to your subconscious mind. For the next week your subconscious mind will provide very creative topics for you in a sporadic and seemingly random way. You’ll be driving to work, taking a shower or eating dinner and suddenly you’ll get a great idea for a sales web Site topic.

This technique can be used for almost any question or dilemma. Just remember the power is in the results your subconscious mind produces in the days after doing the exercise. And that won’t happen if you don’t focus intensely on brainstorming topics for a full 30 minutes. It takes this long to be sure your subconscious mind gets your message.

If you want to supercharge this process do it several times in a row. Your subconscious mind also responds to repetitive messages. Do the exercise three times in one day. Space out your sessions by a few hours each. Starting with your first session carry a pad and pen or a micro recorder with you for the next week to be sure that you capture every single idea that comes to you.

This whole thing has more power if you commit to yourself that you won't make ANY judgment of topic ideas for the first week. Just collect the ideas as they come to you. Make as big a list as you can. The more choices you have the better your odds of finding one that will be both profitable and enjoyable.

Once you have your list you have the basis for your business. You should select the 10 topics that you are most excited about. Think long term. Will you be excited about writing about your topic next year?

With your list of ten topics in hand you're ready to start testing keywords and markets. Eliminate those topics that do not have enough demand then rank those that remain. Pick your favorite and start with that topic for your first site. Keep the others for later web site topics.

 

How to keep robots out of your web site

THE ROBOTS.TXT FILE

You know that search engines have been created to help people find information quickly on the Internet, and the search engines acquire much of their information through robots (also known as spiders or crawlers), that look for web pages for them.

The spiders or crawlers robots explore the web looking for and recording all kinds of information. They usually start with URL submitted by users, or from links they find on the web sites, the sitemap files or the top level of a site.

Once the robot accesses the home page then recursively accesses all pages linked from that page. But the robot can also check out all the pages that can find on a particular server.

After the robot finds a web page it works indexing the title, the keywords, the text, etc. But sometimes you might want to prevent search engines from indexing some of your web pages like news postings, and specially marked web pages (in example: affiliate´s pages), but whether individual robots comply to these conventions is pure voluntary.

ROBOTS EXCLUSION PROTOCOL

So if you want robots to keep out from some of your web pages, you can ask robots to ignore the web pages that you don´t want indexed, and to do that you can place a robots.txt file on the local root server of your web site.

In example if you have a directory called e-books and you want to ask robots to keep out of it, your robots.txt file should read:

User-agent: * Disallow: e-books/

When you don´t have enough control over your server to set up a robots.txt file, you can try adding a META tag to the head section of any HTML document.

In example, a tag like the following tells robots not to index and not to follow links on a particular page:

meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"

Support for the META tag among robots is not so frequent as the Robots Exclusion Protocol, but most of major web indexes currently support it.

NEWS POSTINGS

If you want to keep the search engines out of your news postings, you can create an an "X-no-archive" line in of your postings' headers:

X-no-archive: yes

But although common news clients, allow you to add an X-no-archive line to the headers of your news postings, some of them don´t permit you to do so.

The problem is that most search engines assume that all information they find is public unless marked otherwise.

So be careful because though the robot and archive exclusion standards may help keep your material out of major search engines there are some others that respect no such rules.

If you're highly concerned about the privacy of your e-mail and Usenet postings, you must use some anonymous remailers and PGP. You can read about it here:

Even if you are not particularly concerned about privacy, remember that anything you write will be indexed and archived somewhere for eternity, so use the robots.txt file as much as you need it.

Ok, first, you craft an incredibly SPECIFIC picture of what you want to accomplish.

Now, I don’t mean something like, “I want to have my own business and sell widgets…or, “I want to be self-realized and spiritual.”

No, I’m talking HIGHLY specific with tons of details. More like, “I’m sitting in a black, high backed leather chair in front of my executive oak wood desk that’s 6 feet wide and faces the south wall. On the wall are pictures of Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, and Ray Kroc. I work from 8:15 am until 5 pm and...or, I’m attending a Tony Robbins seminar and I’m walking on coals with such single-pointedness that I’m not even phased by the redhot coals burning under my 10 inch feet; I move toward the other side, one step at a time”…well you get the picture.

The purpose of this exercise is, to instill the SAME future picture into the minds of your mastermind team too…right down to the minute details.

Then you create plans for numerous possible scenarios: the idea is that, no matter what turn life takes on you and your team, you will already have a contingency plan developed to address it.

Once your strategy is in place, then you can hash out the tactics your team will employ in order to actually implement the strategy. This is a very important key to success.

I’m a firm believer of ‘getting things started,’ doing something to get the ball rolling - even if what you do seems silly, awkward or even laughable.

Because if you don’t do something, then you’re probably left sitting there reading emails about great people of achievement and stuck exactly in the same spot you were in the day before, and the day before that…

Once you get the ball rolling, then you have to take a step back and start plotting out a strategy for achieving what you want. Strategies infer the use of systems and systems have a kind of synergy to them where the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

When you work on strategy, you’re identifying your system’s ‘centers of gravity,’ which are key to building out your strategy.

Ok, so work on strategy.

Once strategy is worked out, you need to share it with your team. Get everyone on the same page. This happens right before it’s time to take ACTION.

Then it’s SHOW TIME. It’s GAME TIME. Throw away all your notes because it’s time to get moving and DOING.

Once you’ve executed your strategy, everyone meets back up to discuss how everything went.

This is crucial to the success process.

In fact, it’s one of the most powerful weapons in business and self growth.

In the military, this is often referred to as “Debriefing”. In psychology it’s called ‘Feedback’ and sports teams do this every time they sit down after a game and go over the video tapes.

Regardless of the field, the process is still the same. You absolutely have to take the time to review what just happened in your business and/or in your life!

Were you able to stick to the plan? If not, what happened that was unexpected? How did you handle it?

If you stuck to the plan and you still didn’t hit your target (ie, manifest your future vision), what was it that fell short? Your attitude? Your expectations? Or was the strategy flawed in some way?

You have to, HAVE TO, go through this part of the success process. Because if you don’t, you’re not going to know what you need to do differently next time. And you won’t know which parts of your strategy were powerful, effective, and need to be used again and again.

As soon as you’re done, guess what? It’s time to begin the process again.

Use this same success method fighter pilots are trusting their lives with and in no time you’ll be shattering both your business and and your self growth records.
