Multi Table Poker Tournament Tips

You want to enter a limit tournament so you have to have in mind the gap concept. This is the most obvious change you will have o consider when revising your strategy for a tournament like this. You will pay mare attentions to actually winning every pot you get into and the pot odds will be somewhat disregarded here. This doesn't mean you will do obvious bad moves and get yourself into things you cannot handle. The blind are large when you get yourself further into the tournament, and this is the reason for which you will try and get as little competitors as you can stealing as many blinds as you can to help you rise within the tournaments statistics.

The thing to do is to go through with the hands you see capable of winning the pot. Here hands change values. For example the straight and the flush draws lose their value and high pocket pairs are not so good. On the other hand hands like AK or AQ have a much bigger value because they beat all similar hands like AT, KQ etc. But as you approach the finish you should not get involved with heavy conflicts like when having an A J and you are up against A K. With A J you might get the pot if the flop shows A J, but the A K stands the same chance and it all comes down to luck.

In tournaments you don't go after getting the whole amount of chips your opponents have, you don't necessarily want them to pay your hands greatly, you just want to make them afraid. If they know your hand is a dominating one, they will fold and you can this way slowly increase your stack. And you should do the same whenever you feel threatened by a better hand. As the gap concept says, if you raise with a hand like A 9, then a player that has a hand like A 10 will fold, because he must consider the situation in which you could have a better hand like A J.

If you dealt high pocket pairs like KK or AA you should call any raises that were done in front of your. Raising again will help you eliminate players from the round and that is your purpose. Being this aggressive with top hands you show others that you are indeed determined to take all their chips if they were to continue playing against you.

But, you must never forget to judge the hands of others. While playing your hand make time to reflect what other can hold. Understand the gap concept makes you a good player, but keep in mind that there are bad players out there and they will call your bets and raises just because they have a good hand, regardless of what others might have.

When first starting out a playing poker that even the best players are going to make mistakes and through these a person can learn to become a better player. However when it comes to playing any kind of poker game whether it be a local poker tournament or an online one you need to know where to find them first.

I suppose the best place to start looking for them is on the internet. There are hundreds of sites that are now devoted to all forms of poker and which can provide you with news and information relating to the various tournaments that are taking place. Just by typing into Google “Where to find local poker tournaments” you will be amazed at the number of results that appear on the screen in front of you. There will be sites that list tournaments for a particular area of the USA or there are sites which offer a list of all tournaments that are taking place right across the USA and around the world also.

Every site that provides this information you will find that they provide you with dates, times and the places where the tournaments will be taking place along with contact details of those who are running them.

However if you are someone who is considering in taking part in these face to face type of poker games it is important that you have learnt and played the game as much as possible before you start paying fees to gain entry into them. Although we need to learn by our mistakes it is best if you learn these mistakes through taking part in say free poker games online where you are not actually having to risk your own money whilst taking part in them.

When it actually comes to finding a local poker tournament can often be quite a challenge but there are such sites as Find Poker Pal, Home Poker Games and Chip Sharks which have a whole list of places in the area where you live that are holding poker tournaments.

What you can see from above is that not longer is a person restricted to having to play poker either online or going to places outside of the area where they live in order to take part in a tournament. Instead with a few clicks of the mouse they can soon find a whole host of local poker tournaments for them to take part in close to where they live.

Why I Hate Poker Re-Buy Tournaments

Play in a poker re-buy tournament and you had better make sure that you have enough money on hand. I learned that lesson the hard way. Play in a poker re-buy tournament and you had better make sure that you have enough money on hand. I learned that lesson the hard way. Some days when I was bored I would head over to the local casino in the morning and buy in to their small no limit poker tournaments. On one particular day they were playing a re-buy tournament. Not really understanding the re-buy structure I decided to test it out. It was only 10 dollars to buy in and a sign hung stating “Unlimited re-buys until first level.”

Having brought only a hundred dollars with me, I figured the most I would be out was 10 bucks. Waiting for the tourney to start, I asked around and gathered that you could buy another stack of chips equivalent to your starting chips until the first increase in blinds, if you lost all of them. Wow, cool I thought, if I lose all my chips I can get more. Only 10 bucks extra I thought, not having the intention of losing before the blinds went up. Once we started playing, it was not so cool.

I slowly realized that people at my table were playing like a bunch of maniacs. Going all in, losing and re-buying and re-buying and re-buying, they were just trying to build their chip stacks. Having been dealt actually good hands, I was getting sucked out on, getting rivered left and right and soon was in on the re-buying frenzy.

Angry that these clowns were sucking out on me, I was determined to get their chips and soon found myself out of $100 in less than a half an hour. Far more than the $10 I was originally okay to part with. To my complete dismay, after having lost all my money I watched as everyone at the table had tightened up and began to play “real” poker after the re-buy period ended. These were not just maniacal poker players, they were regulars at the casino who made their living off newbies like me.

I headed over to the ATM, steaming and on tilt and took out another $100, that actually turned out to be $103 after being assessed ATM fees. Getting into a limit game, I quickly lost another $100, adding even more insult to injury when I realized that this table made their money off newbies who were on tilt after losing in the tournament. So much for my fun $10 day. Hey, there’s always blackjack.
