Television tuners allow a user to watch television on
their computer monitor. There are several different
types of television tuners which we will discuss in this
article.
The most common type of television tuner
for a computer is the USB television tuner. USB ports
are common on all computer so this type of connectivity
make it possible to connect the tuner to pretty much any
computer.
The television tuner acts just like a
normal television would but with the need for a bulky
antenna. USB television tuners can receive standard
definition, or high definition signals depending of the
type of tuner you have.
Most television tuners
are bundled with some sort of software. This software
allows the user to record the streaming television onto
their computer so they can watch programs at a later
date. In most cases this software is easy to use and
easily setup.
Television tuners are constantly
evolving. The newest wave of television tuners allow the
user to use two streams from the one tuner. Meaning, you
can record one television show while watching another.
This is very convenient but at present, only one stream
can be recorded and the recorded stream cannot be viewed
in conjunction with the non-recorded stream.
Television tuners are a great way to watch television on
notebook computers. With the portability of notebook
computers, watching television anywhere your notebook
can go is possible.
Television tuners can be
bought for different prices depending on the quality of
the product and the features/software they provide. A
simple tuner can be bought for around 50 dollars whereas
a more expensive alternative with more comprehensive
software will cost upwards of 100 dollars.
With
portability becoming more and more of an issue with
today’s consumers, a USB television tuner is a great
solution to watching television from your computer.
Threatening The Tv
Service Providers
Once upon a time the cable TV has the first

Once upon a time the cable TV has the first choice
for watching TV shows as it was supreme to any other
technology on the market at the time. Cable TV was
spread out into homes all over the country. It had many
advantages of which providing a wide selection of
channels and doing it through air and without any affect
caused by atmospheric disturbances.
Sure the
technology wasn't a hundred percent perfect and even at
the time there were other ways of getting TV into the
common homes. Some of these were “over the air
broadcasting”, satellite TV and video cassettes, but for
TV watching populace (or the majority of them), cable TV
had the right balance of practicality, cost and variety
of programs and shows.
In the beginning of the
1990s there was a giant advance in satellite TV
technology and all of a sudden it became cheap enough to
have the ordinary people subscribe to hundreds of
channels without having the break the bank. This
instantly removed the ten foot antennae that a lot of
people had planted in both the front- and backyards.
Even the people living in the country side (where the
cables didn't run and where “over the air broadcasts”
couldn’t reach) could now afford the same TV options as
everyone else. How it when on is still a mystery, but
somehow the concept of cable TV managed to survive the
new satellite outburst. It has actually, with great
effort, started to make something of a rebound as you
read these lines. It’ll be interesting to see how it is
going to unfold.
Today’s Biggest Threat
Today
the biggest threat to both cable TV and satellite TV is
the increasing capacity to transmit video over the
Internet. The spread of computers in every home (and
most homes have more that one computer already) and the
increasing prevalence of high speed Internet connections
has made people turn more and more to this solution. The
average human spend hours behind the computer every day
and the companies behind the technology are quite to
take advantage of that. If they could just keep people a
little longer that would mean more money for them.
So they reason for the advance in computer
technology is simple and we can see that it is
constantly getting better at processing the massive
amounts of information that go along with broadcasting
and streaming both video and music.
Get a Share
of the Trend
More and more companies are positioning
themselves to get their share of the trend. They do so
by offering programs that can be instantly downloaded
for free from their websites. To take an example, the
company Starz (big movie provider) has put number of
movies on their website to be freely downloaded and they
are not the only ones that have thought of that idea.
You will even find companies that aren’t into
the TV industry and has no channels (e.g. AOL) that are
still creating huge archives of older sporting events,
music videos and TV shows and making them available to
the broad audience online.
If you are wondering
why all of this is a threat to satellite TV and cable TV
providers, it is because the technology provides another
option for people to watch their favorite TV shows and
movies, which will largely cut them out of the grand
picture. The TV people fear that if anyone can download
any TV show that they want in order to watch it when
they feel like it, then they won't bother to subscribe
to a TV service. It might seem a little extreme but the
companies are “better safe than sorry”.
It might
not end up in as bad a scenario as the cable companies
prepare for and one major reason is that a lot of people
like having the TV on simply as background noise while
they're doing something else. Paying for a specific
program to have it run in the background would be
ridiculous to most people.

Hypnosis Can Help you Lose Weight!
Losing weight by hypnosis is now a pretty
common thing to do. Hypnosis has long been recognized as
a scientifically proven method of helping you to achieve
your goals in all kinds of ways – it’s long been
considered one of the best ways to quit smoking, for
example. In recent years an increasing number of people
have turned to hypnosis for other help as well – and
they’ve found that this is a great way to lose weight
and, most importantly, to make sure that the weight
stays off.

Losing weight by hypnosis is now a pretty common thing
to do. Hypnosis has long been recognized as a
scientifically proven method of helping you to achieve
your goals in all kinds of ways – it’s long been
considered one of the best ways to quit smoking, for
example. In recent years an increasing number of people
have turned to hypnosis for other help as well – and
they’ve found that this is a great way to lose weight
and, most importantly, to make sure that the weight
stays off.
As this method of weight loss has
grown in popularity a lot of the popular media has
picked up on its great effects. Weight problems are a
matter of great concern for us as a nation after all.
So, it’s no great surprise to see hypnotherapy regularly
mentioned on TV as a tried and tested solution for
sustained weight loss.
Recently, for example,
Dateline NBC followed 6 people who were due to attend
their high school reunion. It was their 25th anniversary
and they had 10 months to achieve their goals – each of
them had to want to lose a set minimum amount of weight
and they all had to be willing to try a different method
of weight loss. This was designed to show just how well
(or badly!) each weight loss solution might work.
So, each member of the group was given the option of
choosing a different weight loss route to follow. These
included Weight Watchers, extreme exercise, the Atkins
diet, Slim Fast, the Jorge Cruise weight-loss program
and – of course – hypnotism.
Now, it’s easy for
us to claim that hypnosis will help you lose weight and
maintain weight loss. We know that this kind of program
will help you simply because it helps you re-program the
way you think about food so you can modify your eating
habits with no real effort. All you need is the real
desire to lose weight.
But, to reinforce this the
NBC show threw up some interesting results. The guy who
opted to take on the hypnosis method was placed first at
the three month point and second at the five month point
with a weight loss of 39lbs. Second place not sound so
good? Well, the first place here went to the Atkins
dieter – and, as with any extreme diet, there is a risk
here of health problems and a very real chance of
re-gaining weight again as soon as you stop the diet and
start regular eating again.
The fact is that
hypnosis gives you a cure for life – it can change the
way you view food and the reasons why you eat it. And,
it can reinforce the work it does here with a positive
attitude towards exercise and living a healthy life. So,
it’s far easier to lose weight as you will be actively
working towards maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle
on a subconscious level. And, this doesn’t stop in the
way that a diet does as once you re-program the way you
think it stays with you.
As a side issue, the
wife of the guy who took on hypnosis was so impressed by
the way it worked that she signed up for sessions to
quit smoking as she could see how well it worked for
him. And, it worked great for her too…..
