Spain
Alicante is one of the most desired
destinations to visit in Spain. Traveling to Alicante
during the summer months will prove to be the busiest
time of the year to travel. As such, you will want to
begin making your Holiday, Vacation & Tour plans. An early reservation
will allow you to get the better rates on airfare and
car hire.
Most travelers fly into the Alicante
International Airport, one of Spain’s larger airports
offering many discount flights into the region. A large
selection of large and small carriers fly into this
airport from around the world and serve travelers to not
only Alicante but also the popular destinations of
Benidorm, Denia and even Murcia. Again, you should book
early to find the best rate and ensure availability
especially during the summer months.
To find the
best prices on flights to Alicante, you will have to do
some research and the best place to start is online
travel sites. Online sites allow you to compare fares
from different carriers, but keep in mind that all
discount airlines may not be listed on the travel
websites. Though it may take extra time, contacting the
company or airlines directly for information regarding
flights and fares may save you quite a bit of money in
the end.
As mentioned earlier, the summer season
is the busiest travel time to the Costa Blanca. The
longer you wait, the less money you will likely save as
flights are booked quickly. The fewer seats remaining on
the flight, the higher fare you will pay.
Another factor in the price of the fare is when you will
travel. Traveling during the week is generally cheaper
than weekend fares, specifically flights on Tuesday
through Thursdays which are usually better fares. Be
sure to book your return flight for midweek also.
Upon arriving in Alicante, you will need
transportation to your final destination whether in
Alicante itself or a surrounding city. There is a good
public transportation available consisting of buses and
trains which can provide travel to and from various
towns. Public transportation may be sufficient if you
plan to spend most of your time within the city limits
or very nearby to Alicante’s neighboring areas. However,
a car hire may be the better transportation choice if
you plan to visit many areas on the Costa Blanca.
Several care hire companies are available at the airport
and in the city. You can either pick up your care at the
airport or make arrangements with the car hire company
for transportation to and from the airport.

children, you’ll find something to enjoy here.
This area, located north of Alicante and south of Altea,
offers the most family fun, with amusement parks and a
water park to enjoy during the day. It also offers the
most exciting nightlife on the coast. The Terra Mitica
amusement park is based on five different ancient
civilizations, including Greek and Roman. The Aqualandia
Water Park has slides, pools and other water activities
the whole family can enjoy. Mundomar Marine Exotic
Animal Park boasts dolphins, parrots, turtles, sea
lions, penguins and many more animals that are sure to
delight children and adults alike.
The history of
Benidorm winds through the Phoenicians, the Romans, the
Arabs and the Catholic Kings. Each one of these
civilizations has left its mark on the city, through
architecture and artifacts in museums and churches. You
can spend all day wandering through history, walking
through ancient buildings and touring ruins. By day,
this city is a great place to explore the area through
group tours as well as through independent excursions.
By night it’s the place for exciting nightlife, from
restaurants to bars to nightclubs.
Of the
thousands of hotel rooms in Benidorm, the grandest ones
can be found at the Hotel Gran Bali. This 52-story hotel
is right on the beach, and is the tallest hotel in
Europe. It offers the most indulgent of amenities,
including a spa, game rooms and heated pools. It also
offers rooms with panoramic views of the sea, the
mountains or the golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Whether you lounge by the pool or enjoy a massage at the
spa, your experience at this world-class won’t ever be
forgotten.
The two beaches in Benidorm, the
Levante and Poniente, are highlights on the Costa
Blanca. The Levante beach is the livelier of the two, as
it’s the one closest to the city center. Here you’ll
find a variety of restaurants and water sports,
including waterskiing and surfboard rental. The quieter
of the two beaches is Poniente. Here you’ll find an area
to relax and sunbathe all day. Rock formations in the
Bay of Benidorm create coves to explore from the water.
Depending on your mood, you have your choice of a
laid-back, tranquil beach or a more upbeat one.
The resort area of Benidorm offers more attractions and
activities than nearly any other area in Spain. The
perfect weather, beautiful surroundings and ample
activities make for a Holiday, Vacation & Tour to remember.

The Alicante
International Airport is the main airport used for those
traveling to the Alicante and Murcia areas. It is
located in Elche, approximately five to six miles
southwest of the city of Alicante, Spain. It is also a
widely used airport by travelers visiting the Costa
Blanca area and the number of flyers is continually
increasing. Nearly nine million travelers fly into
Alicante annually with eighty percent as international
travel. Many of the flights are from the United Kingdom,
Germany and Holland but this area is particularly a
popular tourist destination for British travelers. The
airport has come a long way since its inception in 1967.
To meet the demand of its travelers, construction of its
new terminal is projected to be completed in 2009.
Upon arrival at the airport, you will need to
determine the best transportation method for you
depending on where you are staying, how long you are
staying and how much you anticipate traveling during
your stay. You can choose the bus or a taxi, but you
will not find a train since there is currently no train
connecting at the Alicante airport. The bus, however,
can take you to several destinations throughout Alicante
and is reasonably priced. Buses operate from 8:00 a.m.
to 11:00 p.m. and run every forty-five minutes, with
each ride lasting around forty minutes. Fortunately, the
buses are air conditioned which will be appreciated
during the hot summer weather. Many drivers do not speak
English at all, but you will find that they are friendly
and eager to help you get where you need to go.
Beyond Alicante, you can take the bus to northern Costa
Blanca towns such as Benidorm which is approximately
twenty-eight miles northeast of Alicante. From the
airport, a bus ride to Benidorm takes about an hour and
fifteen minutes and is more expensive because of the
longer distance. This bus to Benidorm generally runs
from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with each trip leaving every
hour. You can also find bus routes available to
Torrevieja, Denia and Murcia.
If you do not want
to wait for a bus or prefer a car, there are taxis
available. Some of the drivers also speak English, but
all are very helpful. Obviously, the fare depends on how
far your destination is, but another option is to have
the taxi take you to the train station in Alicante.
Though the train ride takes longer than other methods of
transportation, it is a beautiful ride and a great
opportunity to see the beautiful surroundings of Spain’s
Costa Blanca region.
