travel, charter flights, travel planning

Ideally, travel is something everyone would like to do more of. Who wouldn’t enjoy the adventure of learning more about different cultures and places? But isn’t it true, you really don’t realize what you’ve got at home, until you see first hand how other people live.

Unfortunately, travel does not fit into everyone’s budget. Over time, airfare has become more affordable, however extensive air travel is still pricey enough that most people don’t fly nearly as much as they drive. The sad truth is, it’s likely to remain this way. Instead of relying on winning the lotto to pay for your desire to travel more frequently, why not consider a more budget friendly alternative like Charter Flights.

Charter Flights are unique to typical airline travel because their operating system is different. Airlines, like the ones you would normally fly out of large cities, will have a specific route between two cities. The airline flies this route from point A to point B a set number of times per week regardless of how many passengers they carry. This is why airfare is so pricey. Airlines will fly their planes at less than half full and charge you the difference on your next ticket. It's costly to operate those machines, and you, the consumer pays the price whether you're on the plane or not.

Here's the beauty of Charter Companies; by chartering an airplane from reliable airline for specific time slots and dates, they will get the benefit of a large discount on the overall cost, that you could not get on your own. This discount, for a much reduced rate at the per seat price, is passed on to you by the charter company. You can expect most charter companies to offer similar destinations and routes dependant upon the season you're interested in traveling in. Commonly, winter flights will bring you to a warmer Holiday, Vacation & Tour spot.

Reliability is much better with charter flights, as opposed to other discount airfare methods. Airfare prices will decrease as the departure date approaches as well. When considering charter flights, it's important to note that charter companies can cancel any scheduled flight if they haven't sold enough tickets, and contrary to airlines, may be unable to seat you on another flight going to your planned destination, in a timely manner. If this is the case, you should expect a refund or a wait of several days for another charter. This could definitely put a damper on anyone's Holiday, Vacation & Tour.

With that in mind, there are a variety of dependable charter companies and flights that are a reliable alternative to typical airfare, though the discounts may not be as substantial. The bottom line is; if you're able to purchase a ticket without much notice and your flexible on dates and times, flying with a charter company may be much better suited to your budget.

Passing The Time In The Air

If you haven’t flown before or you’re an expert at flying, you may find that long airline trips can be quite boring if your airline has not sort of entertainment such as televisions, radios, etc. While some people can sleep on a plane and make time fly, others have trouble passing the time. This is why we’ve created some great ideas on how you can pass time while flying.

Call or research your airline

Before you hop on your plane, hop online and do your research on what kind of airplane you’re flying. The newer the airplane, the more entertainment you’ll have. Some airliners such as JetBlue have satellite radio, satellite TV, movies, and everything else under the sun while other airliners have nothing at all. It’s important that you call up the airliners and ask what kind of entertainment they will have on board.

Bring a book or magazine

This one if the most obvious and if you don’t like to read, then we suggest you skip over to the next entertainment step. Reading a topic on something you enjoy can really make the time fly by. Whether it’s a magazine or a book, make sure that you bring something you know you’ll enjoy reading. If you’re going to be on a long flight, make sure you bring the proper amount of reading material. A ten page magazine for a five hour flight won’t do.

Electronics are your best friend

IF you own any type of electronic like an IPOD, laptop, DVD player, etc., make sure that you bring it. Airliners will allow you to use electronic equipment once you reach a certain altitude. The only times you can’t use these items are when you’re taking off and landing. When you do bring an electronic item, make sure that you bring plenty of battery power. Most airlines don’t have outlets that you can plug your equipment into.

Plan for the kids

If you have kids, it’s important that you have entertainment for them. Try and think of what they do at home to make the time fly and bring this onto the airplane. You have to remember that you’ll be on a plane filled with other people trying to pass the time. A whining or loud kid will not make the other passengers happy. Books, toys, and food are always a kid’s best friend.

Bring something simple

If you’re afraid your entertainment pack is going to take up a lot of space, think of small things that will pass the time as well. A perfect example is a deck of cards. If you’re traveling with a few buddies, you can play a small game of poker or you can play the games by yourself such solitaire. Other small items might include a little handheld casino player or even a crossword puzzle book.

When you’re ready to travel, it’s not that hard to think of entertainment ideas. With technology growing, you’re going to be able to even surf the internet up in the air. Make sure you just look at your daily habits on what keeps you entertained. Take these hobbies and apply them to the air. If you can do these simple steps, the flight will go by in no time!

Frequent Flyer Points, Collecting flyer miles, Air miles

We all like to get something for free but there is an old adage that says “nothing is ever free”. A free airplane ticket is the draw of frequent flyer points but since airlines are not in the business of giving away seats for free there are some things you need to be aware of. There are also some tricks to using your accumulated air miles so you can get the most benefit out of them.

First off you need to choose a frequent flyer program and stick to that one program. Research the program and choose one that you will use most often. These programs also have partners including other airlines, retail stores, dining and car rental companies. Also research how many miles you receive for your flights and how many miles it takes to redeem a free ticket. Keep in mind that some airlines only give a percentage of the actual miles on discounted tickets so if you’re a bargain hunter then pick a program that gives you one hundred percent of the miles on cheap tickets.

Once you’ve chosen and signed up for a program it’s time to start earning frequent flyer points. Sign up for email newsletters and check the airline’s website constantly so you are on top of any promotions. Check if there are any retail partners that will earn you points before shopping online. Christmas shopping can earn you a free flight so research before you buy.

Credit cards are also available that will earn you miles for each dollar you spend. Be cautious of these; they usually have an annual fee. You need to use the card as much as possible to make this worth it. There are creative ways of spending and earning. Offer to pay using your credit card when you dine out with a large party. You can also use your credit card for large purchases and on line shopping. These will add up quick and collecting flyer miles will become second nature.

Now that you’re earning air miles make sure you stay organized and on top of your accumulated miles. Since there are so many partners and vendors involved there is a likely chance that some of your miles won’t show up. Keep your receipts and any flight stubs in case you need to submit proof to receive credit.

Once you have a significant number of miles it’s time to redeem them. Don’t be too hasty in redeeming your miles. The more you accumulate the better the free ticket’s value. Since airlines don’t like to give away things for free there are only a limited number of seats per flight for frequent flyer redemption. Plan and book as far in advance as possible. Most airlines permit booking nine to twelve month in advance. Also check for redemption promotions since airlines often offer off season destinations at a discount. Don’t waste your miles on a cheap flight; use them on trips that would normally be out of your price range.

Airline flyer miles are a great way to earn free flights but keep organized and wisely redeem them to get their full benefit.
