Why you should take a close look at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge if you are Planning a Honeymoon in Kenya

A Honeymoon in Kenya, sounds like, and would be like a dream come true. Where do you go, and where do you stay when you are looking to take a luxury safari African Holiday, Vacation & Tour in Kenya? This is the key question, and at least part of the answer could well lie in choosing Amboseli National Park as a favourite place to get photographs of elephants against a backdrop of the snow capped Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli is easily reached from Nairobi and one of the best, if not the best place to stay is the Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.

Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge is situated in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, next to a spring and beside giant Acacia trees, with stunning views of the mountain, and surrounded by the kind of big game that makes the lodge such a great place to go for a honeymoon in Kenya.

You will almost certainly see as well as the elephants, animals such as lions, buffalos, cheetahs, giraffes, baboons, gazelles and wildebeest. In fact you are very likely to see Elephant family groups up close and personal in the grounds very close to the lodge, as there are more wild elephants in Amboseli than almost anywhere else in Africa.

Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge is designed to imitate the native architecture, so it sits well with its surroundings, and the room interiors, which are all different, have a definite African feel to them, with the walls covered in murals and African memorabilia.

There are in all 96 guest rooms, with 17 pairs which are interconnecting. Unlike some lodges Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge has 24 hour electricity which is a bonus on any Kenya Safari Holiday, Vacation & Tour, but the outstanding thing is undoubtedly the cheerful, willing, and efficient staff, who offered great service at all times. What is especially good is the welcome back from a game drive with a hot towel to wipe your face.

You will also be guarded by Maasai warriors, although their main function is probably to keep the very friendly monkeys at bay.

The open air dining room overlooks the salt lick and floodlit waterhole, much visited by the big game, and here you will eat international food, buffets, barbeques and authentic African cuisine. The standard of the food is what you would be looking for on an African Safari Holiday, Vacation & Tour, both fresh, and with great variety of choice. Breakfast and lunch are buffet and dinner is a combination of buffet and menu.

There is a bar next to the dining room, and another small bar by the swimming pool, which is by the way ice cold!! By the pool there is a supply of fresh clean towels, and sunbeds.

You can sit on the verandah which overlooks the pool and the gardens and get some really excellent game viewing from there. One of the key selling points for this safari lodge is how good it is for access to the Amboseli game park, and you get the chance of three game drives a day in your own vehicle with your own driver.

Apart from the game drives, you can also have bush dinners, sundowners at Observation Hill, private picnics, lunch boxes, personal game drives. There are also daily guided nature and bird spotting walks through the grounds of Amboseli Serena Lodge with the resident naturalist, plus daily lectures on aspects of the Maasai culture.

Importantly there is full medical back up and emergency evacuation facilities.

Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge is just one of a group of Serena Safari Lodges, but is ideally situated for game viewing. It would be a good place to stop for a couple of nights on any Honeymoon in Kenya. Many families do come here as well as part of their holiday in Kenya or as part of a bigger luxury African Safari.

It certainly bears further investigation

Tortilis Camp Amboseli For Your Top Kenya Safari Holiday

A Kenya Safari Holiday is made complete not only by the wildlife seen but also the quality of the camps and lodges you choose. Tortilis Camp in Amboseli National Park is a Camp that you will love.

A Kenya Safari Holiday is made complete not only by the wildlife seen but also the quality of the camps and lodges you choose. Tortilis Camp in Amboseli National Park is a Camp that you will love.

Situated under a thicket of umbrella shaped trees, and dominated by Mt. Kilimanjaro, there are only 17 very spacious tents, each with en-suite facilities, and a raised veranda, with tents 1 and 2 in particular having incredible views of Kilimanjaro first thing in the morning, weather permitting!

Tortilis Camp is a very well kept secret, and those who take a regular Kenya Safari Holiday, and visit Amboseli want to keep it that way.

The actual safaris, or game drives as we should call them, from Tortilis Camp are of the top quality, and many of the guests are only used to an African Luxuy Safari, so they expect top quality, and they get it at Tortilis. Very safe guides, who listen, and then care enough to make sure insofar as it is possible that you go to where the game you want to see is likely to be. That is what a proper Kenya Safari Holiday should be about.

No Kenya Safari Holiday would be any good without great staff in a great lodge, and Tortilis certainly has this in abundance, and when you add great food, and the previously mentioned accommodation then you just about have it all.

Please note if you are on your Kenya Safari Holiday with dietary requests, then the chef is very amenable!!

Tortili Camp has a swimming pool, which is big enough, very refreshing, and just the thing to while the hours away between early morning, and evening game drives. It is a good point that no self respecting lodge should be without a pool, because a Kenya Safari Holiday can't be all action, you also need relaxation!!

A bush breakfast and sundowners are an essential part of any luxury African safari, especiallya Kenya Safari Holiday, and when tey are organised by Tortilis, you get the best. Walking with a young Maasai warrior is about as good as it gets.

Finally, the vehicles. Any Kenya Safari Holiday is good, but limited if you share a minibus, and have to stand up to see the game. At Tortilis their open Land Rovers, with just your family, and not strangers, with a knowledgeable guide is as good as any Kenya Safari Holiday can get.

Kenya - The Land Where Safari Was Born

As a child, Africa fascinated me - a land where the wild and exotic animals of storybooks and zoos roamed free on the plains. And where Kenya was always the quintessential home of the safari.

As a child, Africa fascinated me - a land where the wild and exotic animals of storybooks and zoos roamed free on the plains. And where Kenya was always the quintessential home of the safari.

Many visits later I'm no less enthralled by this region of dramatic contrasts, and remarkable wildlife amid stunningly beautiful and varied landscapes that are still unencumbered by the trappings of man. And little compares to nights filled with the primal sounds of the bush - the hoots and laughs of hyenas, the grumble of distant lions and the snorts of a hippo.

Kenya, the land where safari was born, is also known as the cradle of mankind - evidence of some of the earliest human settlements has been found here, suggesting that it was the birthplace of humanity from which descendents moved out to populate the world. However, it's the boundless wilderness and big game of this region that has long attracted adventure seekers from all over the globe. No other African country can boast such an incredible range of scenery, unique geographical features and species.

A safari in Kenya is an extraordinary holiday for any wildlife lover, no matter your budget or the level of adventure you're looking for. There's no end of things to explore; from the highlands of central Kenya to the great Rift valley; from the elephants of Amboseli wallowing in a small watering hole, to the vast shores of Lake Victoria, the second largest lake in the world; and from the spectacular views of Africa's highest point, Mount Kilimanjaro, down to a coast of shimmering white sands along the Indian Ocean.

Soak up the wonders of nature while camping under the stars out in the bush, hundreds of miles away from civilization, or relax in luxury at one of the lodges scattered throughout the many game reserves and national parks of this magical country.

Whether you're walking, driving, or even bobbing your way across the plains atop a camel, you'll discover the scents, sounds, and footprints of the bush, as you enjoy the sight of a hyena at full gallop, weaving behind the adrenaline-powered run of a gazelle, or a mighty battle as buffalo bulls fight over territory.

If you venture on a Kenyan safari during July or August, perhaps the best way to check out the wildlife is by hot air balloon. Few places offer a better vantage point from which to witness the amazing phenomenon that is the annual wildebeest migration across the plains of the Maasai Mara, when millions of hooves thunder northwards in search of sweeter grazing during the drier months in the south.

The Maasai Mara Reserve, 200 sq miles of rolling hills, woods and acacia trees watered by the Mara and Talek rivers, opens onto the Serengeti plains of Tanzania. Home to the famously independent and traditional herdsmen, no trip to Kenya would be complete without a visit to Masai Mara. They regard themselves not just as residents of this area but as much a part of the life of the land, as the land is part of their lives.

A visit to Kenya is a veritable life-changing experience filled with an abundance of wildlife, including elephants, zebras, black rhino, lions, leopards and various antelope. One visit alone will be enough to make you understand Earnest Hemmingway's words, "unknowable, unimaginable, unbelievable... and completely unforgettable."
